Specialized Units

While we have many career patrol officers (that’s police speak for officers who devote their careers to the Patrol Bureau), you’re not limited to patrol. Henrico Police is a progressive agency with many specialized units and teams. Once you’ve served as a patrol officer for a minimum of two years, you’ll have the option to expand your skill set and explore other areas of interest in our specialized units.

Metro Aviation Unit

Three jurisdictions, Henrico, Richmond, and Chesterfield, share the financial and operational responsibilities of the Metro Aviation Unit. These specially trained officers are FAA licensed pilots. The unit performs extradition transports, aerial surveillance for foot and vehicle pursuits, traffic control, drug interdiction, and provide an aerial perspective for fires, accident scenes and disaster damage.
